What is "1x Bloom System"?

One bloom system consists of a base unit and two pods which dock on the base unit. One pod consists of a vessel which the spirulina lives in and an outer electronics shell containing lights and sensing circuitry.

How does Bloom make the growing process easy?

Bloom’s patent-pending tech can also detect and notify you when your spirulina is ready to harvest, either by app or via the LED indicators on each pod. So you’ll never be left wondering whether it’s ready or not!

Can I get daily servings from 1 Bloom system?

While 1 Bloom system yields 2 x 5-gram servings every 5 days – up to 14 servings per month – your fresh spirulina can also be frozen into cubes for later use. This way, slightly smaller servings can be consumed daily. For example, 2.26g daily servings are possible from one Bloom system, or 4.52g per day from 2 systems, so there is some flexibility here too.

Can it grow chlorella too?

We’re just focusing on spirulina now for our first users, but we’re absolutely considering the addition of chlorella cultivation in Bloom too. It would require some development work from our team, to ensure the conditions are optimised for the growth of chlorella, but it would be amazing to be able to give users the option between the two superfoods! Post-campaign we will gauge our backers’ interest in the addition of chlorella, and see if it’s something a good percentage of people would like.

Can Bloom function without using the app?

Bloom will certainly work without the app. The app simply gives an extra layer of growth tracking, recipe exploration and more, but it’s not essential. Each growing pod also has a Growth Status Bar which has LEDs that indicate how far along the growing cycle the spirulina are. This remains orange during the 5-day growing cycle and turns green when it’s ready.

Are the vessels made of plastic?

Bloom’s growing vessels are made from BPA-free polypropylene. It was a tough decision between plastic and glass, but due to the vessels being handled regularly during harvesting, the poor durability of glass was ultimately a limiting factor. However, many requests for glass vessels have been made since announcing the product, so our team will certainly be exploring how we can make a glass vessel more durable, in the months following our campaign.

What if I want to grow more than 14 servings per month (more than 1 Bloom system worth)?

We’ve designed Bloom so that multiple units can easily be daisy-chained together, so you can grow enough to meet your needs. Two units together would produce up to 28 servings per month - almost daily servings. So, the multi-system options will most likely suit families, couples, or people who are real spirulina lovers!

How much does Bloom cost to run?

After every harvest, nutrient growth salts need to be added to start a new growing cycle - we’ve designed them as a compressed tablet to make things super simple! This special recipe sets the pH at the optimum value, providing the spirulina with all the compounds it needs to synthesise all its antioxidants and micronutrients, and rapidly grow for the next 5 days. They’re on Indiegogo for as little as £6/month (or £0.43 per serving), so that’s another way of thanking you all for getting in early!

What is in the nutrient tablets?

The nutrient tablets consist of different salts such as sodium chloride, calcium chloride and potassium nitrate. These help to maintain the correct pH for the spirulina, provide extra carbon for photosynthesis and nitrogen-based nutrients to enhance growth. These salts are packed into a pre measured tablet that provides the exact nutrients your spirulina needs to grow for 5 days in Bloom.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
